Miles from Where We Started Songs

miles novel

Within the story, Miles from Where We Started, two songs showed up on the pages–the worship song “Pierced” and a love song from Connor to Mallory–“This Is Not How Our Story Ends.”

Pierced
(c) 2018 lyrics by Cynthia Ruchti, music by Aaron Herman
The chill of night, the heat of day
No steady light to show the way
I care too much, or not at all
I grip too hard; that’s when I fall…
And here You stand before me
Your arms, spread wide, enfold me
You stand in all Your glory

Glory shining.
Your love is shining.
God who breathed Your breath in me
God who stilled restless sea
My God who felled Golgotha’s tree for me
It was Your love that gripped my heart
It was Your love that pierced the dark
Your Love that tore my walls apart
Your Love.
Your love is patient; Love is kind
Your Love will never be denied
You satisfy the longing to be free.
Never failing, always true,
It cannot fade; it’s never rude
Your Love pierced my resistance through
Your Love; Perfect Love.
It was Your love that gripped my heart
It was Your love that pierced the dark
Your Love that tore my walls apart
Your Love.

This Is Not How Our Story Ends

 (c) 2018 lyrics by Cynthia Ruchti, vocal by Aaron Herman, guitar by Chet Stevens, mastering by Eric Wolf of Wolf Mastering, Mix by Sal Salvador )

The look in your eyes when I tell you I love you,

After all the times when words came so hard,

The warmth of your hand on the pulse of our story,

The miles tick on, and they take us far.

Far from the place where our journey started,

Far from the moment our love derailed,

Wrapped in the grace of a Love undeniable,

The miles tick on, and they take us far.

If I could erase all the tears I caused you,

If you could forget all the tears that were mine,

If all that we said and all we left unsaid

Could fade into memories we’d no longer find,

The path that we’ve taken, the one we’re still traveling,

Miles—steep or smooth—ahead of us now,

Would tell us the journey of love’s worth the taking.

We’ve come so far, but we’ve so far to go.
